On August 7, more than 10,000 Hamiltonians filled Hamilton Stadium to honour hometown hero Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — NBA MVP, Finals MVP, NBA Champion, and now, recipient of the Key to the City.

From Mayor Andrea Horwath’s heartfelt tribute to the unveiling of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Way, the day was electric — a powerful celebration of talent, determination, and the pride we share as a community.

Here’s what to expect by early 2026:
• Rooftop garden and community grow space (in partnership with the City)
• Wine & coffee bar opening on Summers Lane
• A “Speakers’ Corner” feature with Cable 14 on King Street
• 7,500 sq. ft. of new event space
• Major interior upgrades from the lobby to the ceiling
• Energy-efficient HVAC system cutting emissions by 50%
